For uni-colored mittens use:

NEEDLES:
DROPS DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 4.5 MM = US 7.

KNITTING GAUGE:
20 stitches in width and 26 rows vertically in stockinette stitch on needle size 4.5 MM = US 7 = 10 x 10 cm = 4" x 4".
After felting: 22 stitches in width and 34 rows vertically in stockinette stitch = 10 x 10 cm = 4" x 4".
NOTE! Remember that needle size is only a suggestion. If you have too many stitches on 10 cm = 4" switch to larger needles. If you have too few stitches on 10 cm = 4" switch to smaller needles.
